G10 2nd Semester Class #32

Today we will deploy the QR Codes and if you did not submit your Evaluate stage last class, you can do so today for 50% of the grade.

If anyone still needs to present, we can do so in small groups.

Simultaneously, we will start our Project 3 Lego Robotics!

We will start working with Investigation:

Let's develop our guiding questions looking into the big concept as well as into our classroom activity:
  • What are Robots?
  • What can we used them for?
  • Why?
  • When were they invented/did it all start?
  • Who?
  • How?
  • How do designs vary for different purposes?
  • add more questions....
Developing our guiding questions we can begin completing our Investigation stage, state the 'problem', develop the Design Brief, relate the importance of these devices in our lives, society and AOIs, etc.
  • Get in new groups with people who you have not worked with before
  • Get started focusing on the listed questions (in red) as an introduction to Project 3: Investigation stage
  • Install the Lego Mindstorms software in your laptops (if you are using your own device)
  • When starting your Investigation stage  document, please remember to:

Once you have developed your design brief, complete the design specifications and remember to keep record of your sources in the bibliography.

We will be using Lego Robotics NXT 2.0 kit. You can visit online tutorials @ NXT Tutorials. You can visit the Essentials page to get started as well as the Advanced section for the expert programmers.
Other ideas and wak through resources could be found at: Lego Mindstorms Overview and The NXT Step blog.

You can decide what your end product will be: car, robot, crane, etc...

If you have not decided what you would like to build, you can visit NXT Programs - Project Ideas.
Other ideas/resources videos are listed below:

Don't forget to start your Process Journal adding journal entry of the day.

G10 2nd Semester Tech Class #10

Today we will start working on Plan!

The main idea in the Plan stage is that you can organize yourselves on what will be done, when and with what resources? The Plan stage needs to:

    1. make a detailed step by step list of tasks/instructions on how the chosen Design will be created/built (think as if someone else will built/create your product based on these instructions)
    2. show a timeline of tasks and resources that will guide you through the next stage: Create. Use the Gantt and CPM (Critical Path Method usually used together with PERT) concepts we talked about in class: simultaneously, overlapping and sequence.
    3. Include evidence of planning for materials and resources usage
    4. Make any modifications you considered needed to your chosen design
A couple suggested tools for Plan stage can be the following:
    WA Expansion reports examples:

Remember that you can always use the Design Folder Checklist to make sure your stage is complete.
Don't forget to check the G10 Due Dates to stay on task. Plan is due today and record your progress in your Process Journal. Thanks!

Second part of the class we will begin working on our Project 1: Digital Citizenship.

Develop a Product to Teach others about Digital Citizenship

We will work in groups of 3 students (max). Please organize in groups.

      Let's start looking into:
      - What will you create/build?
      - What will your audience be?
      - What is Digital Citizenship?
      - What are the Elements of Digital Citizenship?
      - add more questions of your own to continue researching...

      G10 - 2nd Semester Tech Class #3

Welcome to the second week of the second semester!

Following our activity last class, we will continue developing the mind map on the Design Cycle. Today we will complete the Design Cycle by working on the stages: Plan, Create and Evaluate.

Continue working collaboratively with your partners to complete the mind map today. The final piece of work is due by the end of this class.

Since this assignment has been developed with a variety of tools that not all of them allow for showing your Design Cycle Mind Map on one screen/image that can be submitted following the how to submit your Assignments in Technology class details, we will present your final products at the end of class.

30 minutes before the period ends all groups will present their Mind Map. Each group will have 5 minutes to present.

Remember what standards your final product needs to include! You can make sure you have a complete assignment by visiting the information posted in the MYP Technology Docs webpage.

      G10 - 2nd Semester Tech Class #2

Following our conversations last class, this is the first blog post for our G10 MYP Technology class (2nd Semester)!

Please take some time to browse around the MYP Technology website and find/review information about the course, schedule, assessment criteria, expectations, assignment standardshow to submit your assignments and policies among others.

I have also posted the updated A/B days calendar in the MYP Technology website's home page.

Following the IB MYP Technology curriculum (Group 8) , we will be using the core tool: Design Cycle.

Please read in detail the information available at these links.

For further understanding and reflection on the Design Cycle, please read the article below so we can discuss it in class.
Breaking The Design Cycle: Get Creative To Be Creative

Looking into every stage of the Design Cycle, we will make a mind map showing what "happens" in each stage. Let's start with Investigation!

      Resources you can use are:
MYP Technology WebsiteIB MYP TechnologyDesign Cycle Graph and Design Cycle Checklist among others that you will need to find!

Work in pairs for this assignment. Please choose one of the collaborative online mind mapping tools listed below to develop your mind map about the Design Cycle stages: Investigation & Design.
